Rank Tracking monitors the Google search results that matter to your domain and turns movement into SEO actions. It tracks positions, SERP features, AI Overview presence, citation status, competitors, landing URLs, and keyword metrics in the same Serpwise workspace that holds your audits, opportunities, and AI context.

## Setup

1. 1. **Open a domain.** Go to the domain details page and choose **Rank Tracking**.
   2. **Add keywords.** Add one keyword, paste a list, import a CSV, or generate suggestions from Serpwise signals.
   3. **Choose market and device.** Pick the country/language and whether the keyword should be tracked on desktop, mobile, or both.
   4. **Run the first check.** Use **Run now** for an immediate check, or wait for the scheduled daily check.

## Quotas And Limits

Rank Tracking uses organization-level tracked units.

| Plan | Included tracked units |
|------------------|------------------------|
| Business | 100 |
| Partner / Agency | 500 |
| Enterprise | Custom |

Extra markets and devices consume additional units. For example, tracking 50 keywords in Denmark on desktop and mobile uses 100 units.

## Keyword Rankings

The keyword table is designed for repeated SEO work. Use it to scan:

| Column | Meaning |
|-----------------|------------------------------------------------------------|
| Status | Whether the keyword is active, paused, or archived. |
| Market / device | The country, language, and device used for the check. |
| Current rank | The best matching owned-domain result in the checked SERP. |
| Delta | Position movement compared with the previous observation. |
| Searches/mo | Monthly search demand when enrichment is available. |
| CPC / Value | Commercial context used for opportunity scoring. |
| Top competitor | The strongest visible domain above or around your result. |
| Landing URL | The URL Google ranked for your domain. |
| SERP | SERP features, AI Overview presence, and cited status. |

Paused keywords stay viewable and can be resumed. Archived keywords are hidden from normal tracking workflows but remain part of historical context where relevant.

## SERP And AI Overview Evidence

Each completed check stores normalized evidence from the search result:

- Organic positions and the top visible domains.
- Whether an AI Overview appeared.
- Whether your domain was cited in the AI Overview when citation data is available.
- SERP feature badges such as knowledge graph, people also ask, related searches, or other result types.
- The latest SERP snapshot so the team can audit why a rank or citation changed.

User-facing provider details are intentionally hidden. The collection layer appears as Serpwise Cloud where a provider label is needed.

## Keyword Suggestions

Suggestions combine several signal sources:

- Site Brief topics and priority pages.
- Crawled page titles and page context.
- Search Intelligence opportunities.
- Google Search Console queries when connected.
- Serpwise Cloud keyword ideas and demand metrics where available.

Suggestions can include search volume, CPC, competition, clicks, impressions, CTR, average position, recommended URL, estimated traffic, estimated value, and an opportunity score. Importing a suggestion copies the available metrics onto the tracked keyword.

## Competitor Intelligence

The Competitors view becomes useful after completed rank checks. It shows which domains repeatedly win across your tracked keywords, including:

- Share of voice.
- Average position.
- Top 3, top 10, and top 100 counts.
- Affected keywords where the competitor outranks you.
- Strongest ranking URL.
- Recommended action when Serpwise can infer one.

Use competitor detail to inspect the exact keywords and URLs where another domain is beating you.

## Changes And Alerts

The Overview includes a Changes & Alerts panel for meaningful rank events:

- Top-10 won or lost.
- Large drops.
- Competitor overtakes.
- Wrong URL ranking.
- AI Overview citation gained or lost.
- Keywords missing from the top 100.

Acknowledging a change removes it from the active list so the panel stays focused on unreviewed work. Historical observations are not deleted.

## Manual And Scheduled Checks

Scheduled checks run daily by default. Manual runs are useful when you add keywords, update a page, or need fresh evidence before a review.

Manual checks can consume additional rank capacity or credits depending on your plan and usage. Bulk refreshes should be used deliberately, especially when tracking multiple markets or devices.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | What to check |
|--------------------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Searches/mo or CPC is empty | Run enrichment or wait for enrichment to complete. Some low-volume or niche keywords may not return demand data. |
| Keyword says Not found | Your domain was not found in the tracked depth for that market/device. Open the keyword detail to see who ranked instead. |
| Wrong URL is ranking | Compare the target URL with the ranking URL, then review internal links, canonicals, page intent, and content overlap. |
| AI Overview is present but not cited | Treat it as an AIO opportunity. Review cited sources and improve source clarity, structure, and topical evidence. |
| Competitors are empty | Complete at least one rank check. Competitor metrics are derived from SERP observations. |

## Best Practices

- Track commercial and informational keywords separately with folders or tags.
- Track mobile only where mobile results materially affect the workflow.
- Add target URLs for keywords tied to specific landing pages.
- Review not-found keywords and top competitor results before writing new content.
- Use Rank Tracking together with SEO Optimization, AI Visibility, and Analytics MCP for the strongest action loop.
